
CFA Society New York Bestowed with Three Society Excellence Awards from CFA Institute
NEW YORK, MAY 23, 2017 — CFA Society New York—formerly known as New York Society of Security Analysts (NYSSA)—has been recognized by CFA Institute, the global association of investment professionals that sets the standard for professional excellence, as the 2017 recipient of the following awards:

CFANY’s membership grew to 10,000 during the period. [/fusion_li_item] [fusion_li_item icon=””] Research Foundation Society Award: Events/Activities – CFA Society New York was chosen by CFA Institute Research Foundation to receive this award based on our robust calendar of informative and educational events. We host over over 70 seminars per year while also offering numerous member-exclusive forums organized according to member interests. During the period, we also hosted the 50th anniversary celebration of the Research Foundation itself. At this celebration Frank Fabozzi was presented with the JAMES R. VERTIN AWARD. [/fusion_li_item] [fusion_li_item icon=””] Inaugural Global Outstanding Young Leader: Thomas Brigandi – Tom was chosen as the inaugural recipient of this global award for his prolific work at CFA Society New York. He has built a team of over 150 volunteers who regularly organize events from an independent and objective perspective. The CFA Institute Society Awards Program was established in 2006 to identify and reward efforts of societies in the delivery of the CFA Institute mission and provide value to the investment professionals they represent. This year, there were 132 nominations submitted globally in 14 award categories, representing 51 societies.

Thomas Brigandi is an associate analyst in the Global Project and Infrastructure Finance Group at Moody’s, where he serves as a lead analyst for 29 public power, power generation project, toll-road, airport, port, and project finance credits. Brigandi also serves on Moody’s public pension steering committee, ESG Americas working group and veteran recruiting sub-committee. Brigandi previously worked at the ~$160bn NYC Pension Fund, where he focused on energy and natural resources and reported directly to the chief investment officer. Brigandi, CFA Institute’s Inaugural Global Outstanding Young Leader and CFA Society New York’ (CFANY) 2016 Benjamin Graham Distinguished Service Award, 2015 Volunteer of the Year and 2013 Young Investment Professional Award recipient, has organized 49 CFA Society conferences that were attended by +9,000 investment professionals, in addition to over 350 speakers who collectively and directly oversee or advise on +$30 trillion. Brigandi, the founder of CFANY’s Asset Owner Series, Emerging and Frontier Market Series and Annual Global Infrastructure Conference, leads a team of several hundred investment professional CFA Society volunteers globally. While serving as the Director of Global Volunteers of the American Foundation for African Children’s Education, Brigandi organized the NASDAQ Closing Bell Ceremony on September 23, 2011, hosted for the President of Sierra Leone. Brigandi has cultivated personal relationships with thousands of asset owner and buy-side investment professionals who collectively and directly oversee or advise on +$50 trillion, in addition to thousands of sell-side investment professionals, government officials and corporate executives globally. Brigandi maintains over 8,500 connections on LinkedIn and holds a Bachelor of Science in Finance, Accounting and Economics from the Macaulay Honors College at the City University of New York, from where he received the college’s inaugural Alumni Pioneer Award.
