Chief Investment Officer
Key Private Bank
George Mateyo joined Key Private Bank as Chief Investment Officer in December 2016. Here, he is responsible for establishing sound investment strategies for both private and institutional clients, expanding both internal and external research capabilities and managing the delivery of solid risk-adjusted investment performance. He also oversees the firm’s portfolio construction process and chairs the Investment Strategy and Oversight Committee.
KeyBank is the country’s 18th largest bank, providing community banking services in 15 states and corporate banking services nationwide. Key Private Bank manages assets that approximate $40 billion and include high net worth and ultra-high net worth individuals and their families, non-profit institutions, corporations and governmental organizations.
Prior to joining Key, Mr. Mateyo was a Managing Director within Cleveland Clinic’s Investment Office where he served as Cleveland Clinic’s first full-time dedicated investment professional, beginning in January 2010. During his tenure, he led the design and execution of a comprehensive asset allocation strategy, established effective governance and reporting practices, cultivated relationships with leading asset management firms worldwide and exceeded performance standards while adhering to pre-established risk parameters. During his tenure at Cleveland Clinic, assets under his oversight grew from $3 billion to $8 billion.
He also led the oversight of all participant-directed assets, he co-directed the commercialization efforts of Cleveland Clinic’s internally-developed intellectual property and he was an active member of the financial leadership team of the organization.
Prior to joining Cleveland Clinic, Mr. Mateyo’s spent over 15 years in investment management and investment consulting where he acquired firsthand knowledge and insights into the capital markets and the stewardship of investment portfolios for institutional and high net worth investors.
Education and Professional Affiliations
Mr. Mateyo received his BA from Wittenberg University and his MBA from the Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western Reserve University. He also completed additional studies at the London School of Economics.
He is a member of the CFA Institute and the CFA Society of Cleveland, and serves on the Board of Trustees of the Saint Luke’s Foundation of Cleveland where he also chairs the Investment Committee. He also serves as a special advisor to the Endowment Subcommittee of Wittenberg University.
