Second Annual CFANY GIPS Forum

CFA Society New York 1540 Broadway, New York City, NY, United States

The Global Investment Performance Standards (GIPS) are a set of standardized, industry-wide ethical principles that provide investment management firms with guidance on how to calculate and report investment performance to prospective clients. Investment managers voluntarily choose to abide by the GIPS standards – compliance is not mandated by any law or regulation. For many years, GIPS compliance has been seen as an essential ingredient that can make or break a firm’s marketing efforts in terms of winning new mandates and maintaining institutional clients. To this date, more than 1,200 firms have registered with the CFA Institute as claiming compliance with the GIPS Standards. This event will provide a forum in New York to discuss the most recent developments in the GIPS standards and share views on the challenges and opportunities of their implementation. The Forum will feature GIPS experts from the CFA Institute, GIPS committees, asset owners and asset management firms and will rely on the active participation of the attendees for an exchange of ideas and to identify solutions for current implementation questions.

Third Annual Thinking Beyond the Transition for Veterans

CFA Society New York 1540 Broadway, New York City, NY, United States

Transitioning military veterans enter the workforce with diverse experiences and tremendous leadership capacities; yet, achieving the potential benefit for both firm and veteran requires a considerably deeper understanding of what is required for success than either appreciates. The challenge is significant. In 2014, a survey conducted by Syracuse University’s Institute for Veterans and Military Families found that nearly half of veterans leave their first post-military position within a year. For many, both those who leave their jobs and those who stick it out, even many years in the civilian workforce can leave veterans unsure of the direction that will bring them satisfaction and success.
