On Tuesday, June 26, 2012, the New York Society of Security Analysts held its 75th Anniversary Award Dinner and Fundraiser at the historic Museum of American Finance, 48 Wall Street, New York, NY. NYSSA President and Chief Executive Office Dr. Amy Geffen welcomed the 200 attendees, and keynote speakers Stephen Roach and P. Olivier Sarkozy addressed the audience. The speakers were introduced by former NYSSA president and Chair of the Anniversary Dinner Committee, Guy Rutherfurd of F&V Capital.
Roach, a former chairman of Morgan Stanley Asia and the firm’s chief economist and currently Senior Fellow at Yale University, spoke on US-China: Threat or Opportunity. Sarkozy, a managing director at The Carlyle Group and head of its Global Financing Services group, spoke on A Fresh Look at the European Debt Crisis. Afterwards, CNBC business correspondent and co-anchor of Power Lunch, Sue Herera, moderated a question and answer session with the two speakers.
NYSSA Chairman of the Board, Kathy O’Connor, paid tribute to CFA Institute as it marked the 50th Anniversary of the CFA Charter. John Rogers, President and Chief Executive Officer of CFA Institute, accepted the award. Also honored were the following NYSSA Volunteers of the Year for their contributions: Louise Howard of the YMCA Retirement Fund; and Janet Mangano, retired from a 30-year career in investment research and management. William Hayes, retired and former president of NYSSA, received the Furthering Research Award; Stella Alvo, CEO of Westfield Consulting LLC, was awarded the Benjamin Graham Distinguished Service Award; and the Irving Kahn Lifetime Achievement Award was given posthumously to Walter Schloss. His son Edwin Schloss accepted on his behalf.
Winners of the Heloise S. Ham Scholarship and the New York Regional Final of CFA Institute Research Challenge, Rutgers Business School, were also acknowledged.
