NYSSA Annual Dinner
2009 Annual Dinner event information.
The Annual Dinner is the premier event on the NYSSA calendar. It
attracts more than 300 of NYSSA’s most active and senior members
as well as VIP’s within the New York financial community. The
dinner affords NYSSA an opportunity to raise funds to support education
and student outreach programs, host distinguished guests and –
together with friends and supporters - honor the achievements of NYSSA
members, the Volunteers of the Year, and student scholarship
recipients.
In 2008, the guest speaker and recipient of the inaugural NYSSA
Lifetime Achievement Award was Byron Wien, Chief Investment Strategist,
Pequot Capital Management, Inc. Speakers of past Annual Dinners include
Barton Biggs, author of Hedgehogging and managing partner of Traxis
Partners LLC; and Paul E. Steiger, then managing editor of The Wall
Street Journal and vice president of Dow Jones & Company.
Sponsorship of NYSSA’s Annual Dinner is an excellent
way to support NYSSA’s mission to educate and inform the next
generation of professionals. These programs are
designed to grow with students through their academic
career, starting in highschool with the Multicultural Outreach
program and seeing it through to graduate school by way of the
SEMI program and Investment Research Challenge.
Your financial contribution will help fund the following NYSSA Student
Programs:
Multicultural Outreach
The Multicultural Outreach Program was started in 2004 by Gary Ross and
Neal Zephyrin to educate high-school students about the role of capital
markets and helps them understand the basics of finance. The target high
schools are academically rigorous schools in New York City with large
populations of minorities that are underrepresented on Wall Street. The
recently expanded program will include a student managed portfolio and
scholarship awards.
SEMI (Scholarship Education, Mentoring and Internship)
Program
The objective of this program is to provide undergraduate college
students who are pursuing degrees in finance or other related studies
greater exposure to and understanding of the finance and investment
fields. Students given a mentor and attend presentations
covering various financial industry-specific topics. In addition,
as NYSSA members, students have access to the extensive contacts and
resources of NYSSA. The result is a one-of-a-kind opportunity for
NYC-area students who want to get a leg up on their careers.
Investment Research Challenge
The Investment Research Challenge is a way to advance NYSSA's twin goals
of informing and educating investors and advancing the professional
competence of investment professionals including portfolio managers,
security analysts, investment advisors, and others involved in the
investment process. The Challenge, now in it’s seventh year,
is a six-month educational initiative in which leading industry
professionals teach business and finance students how to research and
report on a publicly traded company.
