NYSSA launched the 2006 Investment Research Challenge with its fall student seminars. John Longo, portfolio manager at Cyborg Long/Short Fund, presented “Internet Research: The Ultimate Securities Analyst Tool.” Three sessions on “Research Report Writing” included representatives from both the buy and sell sides: Erik C. Chiprich, associate analyst in the Equity Research-Healthcare group of Harris Nesbitt; David L. Dineen, vice president at Morgan Stanley Investment Management; David C. G. Fleming, vice president in the Content Management Group of Goldman, Sachs; Dana Guido, associate at Lehman Brothers; Timothy W. Irons, vice president in the International Equity Division of Auerbach Grayson & Company; and Timothy McGlinn, senior research analyst at Train, Babcock Advisors.

In addition, three longtime Challenge panelists-John J. Apruzzese, managing director at U.S. Trust; Martin S. Fridson, CEO of FridsonVision; and Jack L. Rivkin, vice president and CIO of Neuberger Berman-spoke on “Navigating Wall Street,” describing how to avoid common pitfalls and succeed in the investment industry.

On December 6, NYSSA held the kickoff meeting for this year’s participants. Business school students from Baruch College, Columbia University, Fordham University, NYU, Pace University, Rutgers University, St. John’s University, Seton Hall University, and Yale University will now begin their research on Aqua America (NYSE: WTR), the subject company of the 2006 Challenge.
