Tasty Baking Company Presents at Student Challenge

Students in the 2007 Investment Research Challenge learned about subject company Tasty Baking Company (Nasdaq: TSTY) at a presentation on February 9, 2007. Founded in 1914, Tasty Baking Company is one of the nation’s leading bakers of snack cakes, pies, cookies, and doughnuts, and offers more than 100 products under the Tastykake brand name. David Marberger, EVP and CFO, and Mary Borneman, manager of investor and public relations, gave an overview of the firm before opening up the floor to questions. Students will use the information gathered at the presentation to complement their research in writing an initiation of coverage report.

The Challenge is an eight-month educational initiative in which industry professionals teach area business and finance students how to research and report on a publicly traded company. The next step for the teams is to write their reports under the guidance of their mentors. Due in mid-March, reports will be evaluated by a team of graders comprised of experienced analysts and portfolio managers selected from NYSSA’s membership.
