Industry Conference
3rd Annual
Construction and Materials Conference
After hitting record highs for six years in a row, the construction
sector has slowed due to a housing market that is still searching for a
bottom and declining growth in the non-residential industry.
Yet, the construction materials industry was valued at more than $120
billion in 2007 and is still projected to grow by almost 11% to $134.3
billion in 2008. This is largely due to non-residential spending,
which rose 13% in 2007.
Many of the construction aggregates -- crushed stone, sand and
gravel, rock asphalt and recycled
concrete used in construction of homes, buildings and infrastructure
projects -- have been able to hold there own due to an average
year-over-year price increases of 10.2% nationwide, despite a declining
demand environment.
Stock performance within the group has been mixed. While the
Dow Jones Construction & Materials Titans 30 Index rose 165% over
the last five years, it is relatively flat, at 1.7%, year to date.
The S&P Construction Materials Index was up 1.6% in 2007, vs. a 3.6
gain for the S&P 1500. Year to date it is
down 14.4%.
What obstacles and opportunities will today’s construction
services and suppliers face in 2008 and beyond? Is there still
upside in this industry? Don’t miss this chance to hear from
industry experts
and meet the senior executives of some of the sector’s biggest and
best companies.
