How can you tell if a company is undervalued or overvalued? Is the
current stock price the only measure of value? Why would one company
command a higher or lower premium than its direct competitor? Go beyond
the academic theory of financial ratios and apply fundamental analysis
and real-world methods of evaluating a company’s intrinsic value.
Review comparables, discounted cash-flow analysis, and leveraged-buyout
analysis. Then perform the following valuation modeling techniques in
Excel: trading statistics, trading comps, reference range analysis,
football field construction, and WACC calculation. Although given in the
context of M&A, these tools are useful for any financial
professional interested in analyzing a company.
Note: Bring your PC laptop with Microsoft Excel installed and a
CD-ROM drive. (Excel 2007, Vista, and Macs may not be as
effective).
Prerequisites: Intermediate proficiency using Excel is
required. NYSSA’s “Excel
Fundamentals for the Finance Professional” is highly
recommended.
Note: To maximize the educational value of this
program, it is strongly recommended that you have a basic understanding
of Excel and are familiar with its functions and features. Lack of basic
Excel skills will impede your ability to effectively acquire and
implement the techniques and shortcuts that are presented in this
program. If you have any questions, or for further information, please
contact the Education Department at education@nyssa.org.
