Industry Conference

Future of Energy Investing: Exploration, Production and Clean Technology Conference

At the end of 2008, the price of oil was down by 61% for the year, after hitting a record high of $147 a barrel in June. In 2009, prices have averaged in the 40s and 50s. However, by mid-September oil futures rose above $72 a barrel, near its high for the year, after the U.S. Energy Department reported that inventories dropped to the lowest level since January.

E&P companies have seen their stock prices drop, but analysts say cost cutting measures implemented in the past year coupled with increasing production levels, a stabilizing economy, and the rising price of oil are making the industry an attractive investment right now.

New investment in the alternative energy sector reached a three-year low earlier this year. During the first quarter of 2009, new investment fell 53% to $13.3 billion. However, the WilderHill Clean Energy Index (ECO), an AMEX-listed index that tracks 88 publicly-traded alternative energy companies, recently shot up to nearly $23, after starting the year at $17, a gain of nearly 35% in just six months.

The Obama administration’s commitment to clean energy is one driver supporting investment in the sector. The industry recently received $31 billion in tax credits and other financial incentives, as well as $134 billion in loan guarantees for large green projects—well above the $30 billion the industry attracted in North America last year.

Is there more upside left in the energy exploration and production industry? What clean technologies will be the leaders in the coming year? What other energy trends should investors watch for? Don’t miss this chance to meet industry insiders, including the CEOs and CFOs from some of today’s fastest-growing and innovative energy companies.
