Author Series: The Myth of the Rational Market
In the course of chronicling the evolution of
financial theory over the past century, Justin Fox effectively distills
complicated theory with clarity. From the randomness of price movements
to arbitrage induced equilibrium models, he lays the groundwork for the
ascendancy of the efficient market hypothesis. After successive bubbles,
Fox makes the case that flaws in that foundation are clear. Behavioral
finance, which acknowledges investors are not always rational and have
biases, provides important insight into how markets work and must be
considered. Throughout this highly readable book, a cast of characters
is introduced, including their eccentricities, which brings dry
statistics alive and make it a worthy addition to your
bookshelf.
